Lets Sharpen It Up Some
Since we made the image smaller it lost some information, so it is probably a little blurry. No problem. Just Go to Image..Sharpen. Keep sharpening until you are happy with the way the image looks. If you sharpen it up too much, just hit Edit..Undo to go back one level.

Click to see the resized and resharpened image. By the way, for those following along with Paint Shop Pro or Photoshop both of these programs have sharpening options too. The sharpening algorithms they use are better than irfanview actually, but irfanview is FREE :O I'm not sure where they are located at the moment, but I think you can find sharpening options under Effects for PSP and under Filters for Photoshop.

And that's how we resize a wallpaper/background image!

What if I want to make the wallpaper Bigger?
It usually isn't a good idea to make a wallpaper image bigger. When you try to make it bigger, Irfanview has to stick in some information to make it bigger. You could say it fills in the gaps. The image could end up being pretty blurry. If you do make an image larger, just try to sharpen it as much as you can. If you want to see an example of what I mean; try resizing the 1024 x 768 Olivia Lufkin background down to 800 x 600, then back to 1024 x 768. It won't look the same.
