[ Home : Wallpaper Resizing Guide ]

Purpose
This is just a short guide to resizing wallpaper images but could be applied to resizing any graphic at all. An example would be changing a wallpaper sized 1024 x 768 to 800 x 600.

This guide will make use of a freeware graphic viewer called Irfanview. Irfanview is a powerful tool with a small file size. Did I mention its free? Any other graphic viewing or editing software could be used but make sure it has some type of resizing options. Two good ones are Jascs Paint Shop Pro and Adobe Photoshop.

Lets Get Started
OK so the basic problem is that we have wallpaper that is too big and need it to be a smaller size. For the following guide I will use an Olivia Lufkin background I made. The original size is 1024 x 768 but we are going to change it to an image that is 800 x 600. The first number usually refers to the width and the second number corresponds to the height. Click here to see the original image

"The first number usually refers to the width and the second number corresponds to the height."

The first thing we want to do is open the image up with Irfanview. To resize the image click on Image..Resize(Ctrl + R)

Next make sure Preserve Aspect Ratio is checked. This ensures that our image doesn't become skewed or disproportionate. Also make sure Use Resample Routine is also checked. This is slower but keeps our image quality high. Go ahead and where it says Width type in 800. Notice that the program automatically fills in the Height field with 600. This is due to the Preserve Aspect Ratio setting. If you were to type in 640 for the Width field the program would automatcially fill in 480 for the Height. Now click on OK and change the size of the image. Looks kind of blurry doesn't it?

Next, lets try to clean the image up a bit.
